A Dear Friend and Fellow Employee, Joe Zant will be missed!
Joe Zant passed away this morning. For all that knew Joe, either seeing him working behind the counter at the golf course, on the golf course playing the game he loved so much, smoking a cigar in the Barter garage shooting pool or where ever any of us were lucky enough to know him; we all lost a dear friend and a very good man today. Joe was diagnosed with brain cancer a year ago and was doing pretty good until about three weeks ago when it reared it’s ugly head once again.

PLEASE READ THE INFORMATION BELOW AND SUPPORT OUR SPONSORS WHO SUPPORT US! As you know the Pacific Northwest Section is a proud supporter of Camp Korey. We enjoy a mutually beneficial relationship with Camp Korey in producing the Washington Open. Thanks to this partnership, and in particular, the sponsorship efforts of the team at Camp Korey, the charity donation has grown from $10,000 in 2009 to over $580,000 in 2011 and with a purse increase from $65,000 to $165,000 in 2011. We need your support to continue to enhance this championship and we ask your help in recruiting potential sponsors and players. The Washington Open has grown into one of the premier charity golf events in the Section. Not only will sponsors you recruit be supporting an outstanding charity, they will be participating in a sponsor pro-am, “The Korey”, that is all about quality. The Korey begins with a kick-off dinner at the Hyatt Regency Bellevue on Friday night complete with amazing food, wine and entertainment. Saturday brings the first full day of golf with a PGA Professional at Glendale Country Club including breakfast, lunch and on course goodies followed by headliner entertainment on Saturday evening at the Hyatt. Nationally recognized comedians John Pinette and Gabriel Iglasias entertained the group the last two years. Sunday brings day two of The Korey back at Glendale. Tee prizes take on a twist at The Korey where players select their own prizes from the special TaylorMade ad idas Golf Shop. Also included are rooms at the Hyatt for the pro-am team. Spouses are an important part of The Korey and are invited to both the Friday and Saturday evening events. As you can see, The Korey is a very special event and who you recruit takes a little different perspective. This unique event speaks to that member/customer of yours who already reaches out to support charities in the community every year. We all have people like this at our clubs, some of you are even in this role! The Korey will really appeal to these golfers, and probably will not fit your buddies you like to play with every Monday. It’s meant to be a very special charity event. Teams start at $10,000 and this can be split among four or sold to one individual who brings in his clients for a pretty classy weekend of golf. Take a look around, you all have golfers at your club who support their community and charity golf events…this is an upgrade to what they already do! Please put this opportunity in front of them. |
Slope Rating – What is Slope Rating in Golf?
A very good explanation of what is involved and how “Slope” and “Course Ratings” are figured for a golf course.
The average “Slope” rating for a golf course in the United States is 113. The problems that the golf industry is facing right now is that 95% of all new golf course built in the last 15 years have been built that have a higher slope rating of 113.
The relevance of this is?
What must the golf industry do to create new players for those players that have never played the game before?
The top (3) reasons that players are dropping out of the game as well as not taking the game up are as follows:
1. It cost too much to play.
2. It takes too long to play.
3. The golf courses available today are too hard for players and they get discouraged.
